Errors That Affect Your Weight Loss Continued

So often people get hung up on exercise and forget that what they eat is just as important. In fact losing weight is 80% what you eat and 20% exercise. Last week Uncle Bud was sharing with the Coffee Club several errors we make when dieting that affect weight lose. He covered 5 out of 10 things he wanted us to know before time ran out. This morning we are ready for him to give us the next 5. As you know by now he is always ready to take the floor to share his wisdom with us. And really, we are always ready to hear what he has to say. So be begins with number 6.

  1.  Sipping Too Many Calories

When counting calories we often overlook what’s in our drinks. This is a mistake that can     sabotage any diet when you consider that fancy coffees and alcoholic beverages often have over 500 calories. Even if you are drinking fruit juice and sodas the calories really add up fast. Plus the calories you consume as liquids do not curb hunger. You will not eat any less after a high-calorie drink.

  1.  Drinking Too Little Water

This is one of the simplest diet mistakes to fix. Water is essential for burning calories. If you let yourself become dehydrated, your metabolism drags, and that means slower weight loss. So try adding a glass of water to every meal and snack.

  1.  Ditching Dairy

Yes, we do need some dairy products while dieting. Now before you get to excited let me point out that whole milk, cheese, and ice cream are taboo for most dieters. But ditching dairy foods may be counterproductive as well. Some research suggests that the body burns fat when it gets enough calcium and produces more fat when it is calcium deprived. Uncle Bud pointes that calcium supplements do not appear to yield the same benefits. He reminds us that we need to stick to nonfat or low fat dairy options.

  1.  Going Drive-Thru Too Often

Oh my goodness, how convenient is it to use the drive-thru after a hectic day. No matter how good your intentions are to order a salad or other healthier option are you sure you can resist that milkshake or some other treat? Uncle Bud admits that he cannot always resist adding a chocolate shake to his order. It is so easy to get into the habit of eating fast foods. It is just so easy. If you do not think you can stick to the healthier items it is best to not allow yourself to get into the habit of relying on fast food restaurants.

  1.  Setting Unrealistic Goals

If you set unrealistic goals you are setting yourself up for failure. For example, do not tell yourself you are going to lose 20 pounds the first week of your diet. That is just not going to happen. Set goals that are obtainable and that will allow you to lose weight and keep it off.
